Peter Sprague, Leonard Patton,
Tripp Sprague

PETER SPRAGUE'S BOOMER JAZZ

The Peter Sprague trio explores the jazz tradition of improvisation but with a slightly different spin — they bring their jazz viewpoint to songs that resonate with the boomers. They start with The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor, and Cream, and then for balance they play “Georgia” by Hoagy Carmichael, add in a Cole Porter beauty, and samba on one of Peter’s original compositions. The trio includes Tripp (who is Peter’s brother) on saxophone who also doubles on flute, chromatic harmonica and percussion; Leonard Patton singing up a storm all the while sitting on a cajon (percussion box), and Peter who plays a one of kind double neck guitar along with an array of special pedals on the floor that he adds in as needed. Together they travel to special aural vistas all with the spirit of FUN leading the way — the vibe is contagious, the sound pulls you in, and happily the woes of the world ease up.

Tickets include show admission, hors d’oeuvres, and free valet parking.

THE MUSIC OF JOSHUA WHITE

White was trained in both classical and gospel music and received formal piano training at the age of seven.  He was immersed in the music of classical greats such as Bach and Beethoven and competed in several piano music competitions until he began his focus on Jazz at the age of 18. He studied with composer Anthony Davis, flutist Holly Hofmann, and piano master Mike Wofford to name a few.  In the following years, he made great strides through the southern California jazz community playing with Gilbert Castellanos, Mark Dresser and others.  In 2011, White entered the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., placing second out of 160 competitors. One of the judges, Herbie Hancock told music critic George Varga of the San Diego Union Tribune that he was “impressed with by the daring and courageous approach to improvisation on the cutting edge of innovation—he is his own man.”  For the last several years, White has been in demand as one of Southern California’s most creative and
technically accomplished pianists. He performs regularly at Dizzy’s (San Diego), Blue Whale (Los Angeles) and other venues.
