About Michael Viesca and Ben Shapiro
Viesca and Shapiro met as SDSU students and joined forces through the college’s Lavin Entrepreneurship Program where they envisioned a company platform that would focus on providing technology to seniors and breaking down the generational divide related to technology. The result was the launch of TekMate in 2020, a company designed to bridge that gap, provide usable computer knowledge and training so seniors can utilize it to enhance their lives—from their health needs, to transportation, home and social connectivity. As early as high school, Shapiro won a Rotary Speech Competition on the topic of NSA and Privacy, which launched his freelance computer consultant career and was referred to at an early as “Inspector Gadget.” Viesca’s technology focus is on digital security and privacy and he’s committed to making sure seniors enjoy the experience of learning about technology and at the same time protecting their online privacy.
