J. Riley Cain Jazz Trio From New Orleans
Cain was a noted San Diego musician who was house pianist at The Hotel Del for almost a decade. For many years he performed at top La Jolla venues such as the legendary Avanti and Elario’s (which was atop the Hotel La Jolla), The La V, Eddie V’s, The Del Mar Grand, Truluck’s and many others throughout the San Diego area.
He left San Diego in 2016 for south America where, with his wife, jazz singer Katie Cat, he operated his own jazz nightclub. After a few years they relocated to New Orleans, the birth place of jazz.
“The musical mythology and mystique of New Orleans is actually a real thing,” says Cain, “I love to share the fun and joy of music that New Orleans musicians feel. There’s something about this place that renewed my spirit. New Orleans took me back to where I started, to the beginnings of why I loved playing music in the first place, to why I decided to make this my life’s work.”
Along with journeymen musicians Marly Waak on drums and Grant Clarkson on bass, the trio will be performing a musical gumbo of jazz, blues, Latin and Brazilian music, all with a spicy dash of New Orleans juju. It’s sure to be fun and entertaining evening.
