A seasoned and talented jazz singer, Rose Mallett has captured the essence of vocal delivery that some say reminds them of the range and texture of Sarah Vaughan; the joy and playfulness of Ella Fitzgerald; the foreboding pain of Billie Holiday; and the regal articulation of Lena Horne. Mallet began singing R&B as a teenager in Los Angeles, where she was discovered by Capitol Records. Years later, meeting Marvin Gaye and Motown producer Hal Davis led to the opportunity to sing demos for the record labels top female artists. Mallett, a popular vocalist in Southern California, is very much in demand in Greater Palm Springs and can often be found at The Purple Room Supper Club and Vicky’s of Santa Fe. Her career has included shows at nightclubs and venues around the country. She has performed in Las Vegas, opening for Ben Vereen, and backing up Susan Anton. She sang “I Never Think of You” in New Line Cinema’s Now and Then, and she has appeared in other films, as well. For her second year in the Fourth Friday Jazz Series, Mallet’s trio will present music from “The First Lady of Song” - Ella Fitzgerald. The most popular female jazz singer in the US for over half a century, Fitzgerald won 13 Grammys and sold more than 40 million albums. Look forward to a captivating evening of sultry ballads, lively jazz and the engaging presence of Mallet, a master of live performance who mesmerizes her audiences.
